Day 18: Gander to Appleton

Big ATV

Distance: 26km (16.2 miles)

We were well rested, well fed, and well stocked when we left Gander this morning for Appleton. It was a perfect day to be out hiking: sunny, with enough clouds for some shade, and a strong breeze that kept the mosquitoes and black flies at bay.

The trail out of Gander is well paved, and we made good progress the first hour or so. Later we slowed down a bit, not so much because of the track, which did become a bit rougher, but more because of the many ATV’s that passed us – today being a Saturday. One was the biggest ATV ever: it almost looked like a tank, and was used by people who went fishing.
